Maripol’s work as an artist and designer has influenced popular movements in music, film, fashion, and art since the early 1980s. As a photographer, she is most famous for her Polaroid portraits of the 1980s downtown New York cultural scene which have been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide. As an apparel and jewelry designer, her trademark black rubber bracelets, chains, and crucifixes helped shape the style of the decade. Maripol captured the New York City art and club-kid scene during the 1980s with her iconic Polaroids, featuring legendary celebrities like Andy Warhol, Madonna, Debbie Harry, Grace Jones, Keith Haring & others.
